Disinfecting your bird’s habitat

Disinfect, disinfect, disinfect! It can’t be stressed enough. It can prevent the acquiring and transmission of diseases and make your bird happier in general. But what is the best way to disinfect your bird’s habitat?

It is very important to thoroughly wash your bird’s cage before you disinfect it. Disinfectants cannot do a thorough job if there is organic material such as feces or food on the surfaces. Use a mild dish soap solution to initially clean everything and then rinse well. Sometimes droppings can be difficult to get off, but “Poop Off,” usually removes it. Next, mix a disinfectant to apply to the surfaces.

One disinfectant that works very well and is safe for your bird is Pet Focus Disinfectant. It is a one-step disinfectant, virucide, fungicide, and cleaner. It is no-rinse and effective against Avian Polyoma Virus, Psittacosis, and many other viruses and bacteria.

Remember, a clean cage helps promote a healthy bird. If you have any questions, give us a call!
