Your Puppy's First Check-Up

Your Puppy's First Check Up

Back
Preventive health care is an important component of caring for your new puppy. Regular veterinary visits, administering needed vaccinations, and preventing common parasites all contribute to your dog’s well-being and will help to ensure a long and healthy life for your new family member.

Once your new puppy has settled into his new home, schedule a visit with your veterinarian for a complete health examination. During the initial visit, your veterinarian will administer any needed vaccines, provide a complete health examination, and begin a health record for your pup. Take along a fecal sample that can be tested for intestinal parasites. This visit also allows you to request advice about your puppy’s health, training, and nutrition.
Did You Know
Neutering has health and behavior benefits. There are many reasons to neuter your dog. Unwanted pregnancies are prevented and neutered males and females are less likely to develop certain reproductive tract diseases, including some forms of cancer. Neutering also improves behavior by reducing urine marking and inter-dog aggression in males. Because neutered animals generally live longer than non-neutered pets, failing to neuter can be an important risk factor that affects the quality and length of your dog's life.
