Lets Go for a Walk!
Protecting Your Cat From Outdoor Dangers
Although many cats enjoy spending time out-of-doors, allowing a cat unsupervised time outside has many risks. Longevity studies show that the expected life span of a cat who is allowed to roam outside without supervision is dramatically shorter than the lifespan of cats who are kept safely confined indoors. If you have a cat who loves to go outside, one solution is to teach your cat to walk on a harness and lead. If your cat will walk on lead, regular outdoor outings can be an enjoyable experience for you both. A leather or nylon, six foot lead can be used for this purpose. Even if your cat will not walk on the lead, a leash should still be attached to his collar or harness whenever you take him traveling or to the veterinarian so that you can control him at all times. Another approach to providing time outdoors is to install an outdoor cat enclosure that keeps cats safe while still allowing time outdoors.
