What about those colored seeds?

Research has shown that colored seeds in bird food have a better consumption rate in birds as well as add variety to their diet. A study done comparing a bird’s consumption rate between colored and colorless food showed that birds choose the colored diet and consume more of it. Bright colors like yellow, red, green, and purple are especially attractive to birds. Dark colors are not very acceptable. The colors used on seeds are sprayed with the same food coloring used in pelleted foods and are FDA approved human grade food colorings.
